                                       Do You Feel Stressed?

Recent studies have shown that 79% to 90% of the reasons
people visit their primary care doctor is due to illness
caused by stress or related to stress and there is not a thing
the doctor can do other then prescribe medications to
    reduce the symptoms.

These studies make perfect sense, being several hundred
years ago the main things people worried about were
collecting eggs and milking cows. Now we are over burden
with bills many are unable to pay, not enough hours in the
day, while your career and family responsibilities are
demanding more and more of your attention.
Unfortunately these responsibilities will continue to appear within our life. It is like being
in the middle of a hurricane. Fortnightly there are ways to protect yourself from the storm.
First and foremost we must realize we do not have control of the storm. But, we do have
control in how we respond to the storm.
Managing stress is all about taking charge: taking charge of your thoughts, your
emotions, your schedule, your environment, and the way you deal with problems. The
ultimate goal is a balanced life, with time for work, relationships, relaxation, and fun – plus
the resilience to hold up under pressure and meet challenges head on.

Many times what increases our level of stress is the way we perceive situations. You know, the half full half empty
glass thing. The way we respond to what we see and experience is the problem, not what actually happens. Over the
years science has discovered a system in our brain that responds to stress by releasing chemicals in the blood
stream which ready your to fight or flee. On the opposite side of the coin, nature has also blessed us with a system
called the relaxation response. But first let us look at some of the ways we respond to situations we perceive as
stressful.
  • Sleeping to much.
  • Drinking two much
  • Using pills or other substances to relax
  • Withdrawing from social situations
  • Watching to much TV, playing video games or
being on the computer all the time.
  • Procrastination
  • Taking your stress out on other people
  • Eating to much
How counseling can benefit you.
If the way you are managing stress is not working for you than you must learn new methods to manage it.
Counseling will teach you skills to:

  • Avoid situations that cause you stress by learning what triggers it.
  • Change the situation
  • Change your self so you can adapt to the situation
  • Learn to accept there are people, places and things we can not change.
